DID YOU KNOW?

CARE International conducted a report based on first-person accounts of more than 10,000 participants’ views of the challenges faced by women during COVID-19.

The study found that 27% of women reported an increase in challenges associated with mental illness, compared to only 10% of men.

THE CHALLENGE

Naomi Torres-Mackie, PhD, head of research at the Mental Health Coalition.states, “the build-up of responsibilities [for women during the COVID Pandemic], like homeschooling or caring for sick relatives, she says it becomes harder for women to care for themselves, which in turn affects their mental health.

Multitasking leads to less efficiency and quality in each role, and takes time away from self-care. Hence, mental health concerns among women, in particular, have been on the rise,” she says.

Women are struggling with mental health during the pandemic to meet the daily demands of their various roles in society and need a digital tool to create a personalized self-care experience but face the new reality of work from home or remote work that creates challenges with work life balance.

What is Libra?

LIBRA is the astrological sign for harmony and relationship that strives for balance between polarities.

- Their natural mode is living in partnership with others.

- Self-sacrificing nature can be great for their loved ones but often leaves them feeling burnt out and unappreciated.

Many women struggle to reach the balance and harmonious power of LIBRA.

RESEARCH & ANALYSIS

Kicking-off, 18 women were screened on their experience with work-life balance.

For the second phase, we then conducted interviews with 5 users who identify as female and desire a new solution to work-life balance difficulties that have increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. We seek to gain insight on current work status, roles outside of work, and tools that they are using or wish they had to bring more balance and to prioritize self-care.

PERSONA #2

AFFINITY MAP

4 out of 5 participants stated they “Don’t Like Wearable Devices.”

4 out of 5 participantssaid they need a tool to help “Need Personal Care & Time Off."

5 out of 5 participants said they “Struggle with Boundaries Around Multitasking.”

THE SOLUTION

Based on our key findings and referencing the personas, we designed a browser plugin.

Our interviewees worked from home using their laptops and desired not to manage another cell phone app or wanted to avoid a wearable device. To bring ease and utility to the users’ journey the plugin integration seemed like a beneficial solution to streamline the flow between work and prioritizing self-care.

This plugin will be fully customizable with self-care goal setting and personalized affirmations, and rewards chosen by the user.

LIBRA FEATURES

The prototype will contain the following based on the research findings and personas:

- Browser Widget & Notifications
- Dashboard Goal Setting & Tooltip Tour
- Self-Care Questionnaire
- Affirmations & Rewards Selection

The features were built using a shared design system.

UI-kit

PROTOTYPE: UI KIT

In color psychology, the color purple unconsciously represents calmness and relaxation.

As a team, we wanted Libra’s tone to feel calm and welcoming to whoever uses the application. The iconography and visuals were inspired by the reminder notes of women and inspiration by natural elements.

HI-FIDELITY WIREFRAMES

I created a realistic demo video within our MVP prototype wireframes to demonstrate to a user what LIBRA looks like and how it functions.

Once the user sets up their account, they have the option to go through a tool-tip tour.

While the user is being productive at work, Libra will touch base with you every once in awhile with it's gentle tone.

RECOMMENDATIONS: NEXT STEPS
